About
Mathieu YAMAGUCHI is a french-japanese photographer, firstly graduated in Architecture at the Paris-Malaquais National School of Architecture. With an early practice of analog photography, he believes that drawing is an important base in pictures composition.
His life has been a dramatically long journey between France and Japan, between occidental art and oriental art. He practiced art ceramic for a long period of time. Considered as a major art in Japan, keeping its ancestral technics and values, this practice allowed him to explore the japanese spirit in depth.
Having practiced architecture (Saint Marc golf facilities, near Paris); objects design (lauréat of the International European Space Agency international design competition), and art ceramics as said above with great masters as Diana Berrier and the legendary japanese artist Ryoji Koie, and finally music in a notably great orchestra, Mathieu Yamaguchi considers those multiple art practices, including photography, as a single one, defined by rythms, vibrations, silences, and colors. He founds no difference in the creation process among them.
Obviously influenced by the Zen masters practices, he aims to find the still, quiet state of mind that leads to the perfect gesture.
